MnOdM: Did you ever do things like practice dancing in front of your bedroom mirror?

Emily: Oooh for sure, like…. I remember … New Kids On The Block!… so I moved to Virginia when I was maybe… ten, and, ummm, the cool girls came up to me one day, I didn’t know anybody, and they were like - Do you like New Kids On The Block? I didn’t know who they were ... my parents are like hippies, or whatever, so I was like – Yeah! I like New Kids On The Block! – never heard of them! - and so they were like - OK you can hang out with us…
Because there were four of them, and there were five New Kids.
- so... we need, like, another one… But you have to get the ugly one… like he has to be your New Kid…
OK. ok, I’ll take him… whatever…

MnOdM: What was your one called?

Emily: (thinks) The one I liked was Jordan…. But I think I had to have Joe who was the younger one, but … I was… at least I didn’t have to have Danny, he was the really ugly one.

MnOdM: Someone wanted Danny?

Emily: Yeah well, it was kind of dictated to her that she had to have Danny so… just like it was dictated to me that I had to have Joe…

MnOdM: Is this like a gang?

Emily: Basically. It was this crazy girl Abby Greenberg.
(imitates bossy girl doing the neck thing) It was like – Lynn! - you get Danny… Emily! - you get Joe… and they’re your boyfriends and you love them… ok!
So yeah, we would totally do dance routines. We did a dance routine at a talent show to Rhythm Nation. Janet Jackson. It was really intense, we wore like white t-shirts that were too big, like belts, spandex, it was awesome. I don’t know. Um… Yeeeaaah, we were tough…. Oh god we had a name for ourselves, our, like dance troupe … but I can’t remember…

Being the first of these films i made a few mistakes ... like forgetting to press the record button a couple of times and too much talking and not enough dancing. (although I did cut out Brett's long, loooooonnnggg story about how his grandfather called him to his deathbed to pass on the secret of great dancing) .
