dave, mary and frances - sideways

The films I've shot for my number one dance move aren't designed to be shown on a computer screen or a tv screen... they're shot in portrait mode... and you need to imagine them projected so the dancers are lifesize in front of you...

If I was being hardcore I'd put the films up here as they were shot - and viewers could turn their laptops and computer monitors on their sides; but I converted these three into normal landscape orientation for the Cube Cinema Ausform Performance Film event a couple of weeks ago...

Kerry, Jason and Tom

These are cuts I used when I showed a work in progress version of the installation in St Weburgh's, Bristol - September 2009.
They're presented here as they're projected so you'll have to turn your laptop or vdu on its side to watch them... like this -

If you're unhappy about turning your machinery on its side ... I'll put up some videos in "normal" orientation in the next post (above)....

testing out the films on a cold evening in our studio at Bridewell Island.

At the moment I've only put eight of the twelve dancers into the interface.

I wanted each dancer on the laptop screen to be a little dancing movie that acts as a button to activate the big projections, but I couldn't get the movies to run at the right speed. The more dancers I added the more their dancing slowed dowwwwnnnnnnn.
After a couple of days struggling with flash and phoning techie friends I gave up - so the dancers on the interface are still photos... for now.
